We use mostly natural cloths where possible with an emphasis on cotton, linen, silk and wool and take great pleasure in using a broad palette of exquisite colours and textures.

Our styles are continually evolving, with stock arriving every couple of weeks or so from our workrooms so, consequently, unlike other shops and boutiques, we are not hindered by the restrictions of having season-specific stock deliveries twice a year. As occasions need to be planned for throughout the year so we offer seasonless, timeless, beautiful outfits all year round.

Many of our designs pay homage to the incomparable cut and style of the 1950’s and early 1960’s. Our full circle skirts are truly full circle and the cut of our shifts has been honed over the years to become the ultimate in flattering the female form. Our designs will often incorporate fine detail such as piped seams or edging, covered buttons and rouleaux fastenings. Some ensembles are sold as suits, however, most dresses can easily be teamed with one of our matching or coordinating jackets to create a complete outfit thus making everything extremely versatile.

We endeavour to put as much as possible on the website, however, the full extent of the rich visual and sensory experience that constitutes a visit to our boutique is well worth the effort! Our sales staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly and give a service second to none, enthusiastically helping and inspiring when required. Alternatively they are always more than happy to assist with enquiries via e-mail or, preferably, telephone.

A brief history by Sue Hamilton (Chief Designer)

I began my career in fashion through a love of colour, textiles, silhouettes and all that goes into creating beautiful clothes. My inspiration, then as now, comes from wonderful iconic British designers such as Bill Gibb, John Bates, Jean Muir etc, sleek and stylish American designers such as Ralph Lauren, Halston, Calvin Klein and Donna Karen and, of course, the incomparable style of Dior’s New Look.

After studying design, pattern making and all aspects of the clothing industry I worked in London for a short time. My mother, Joan, had always been influential and inspirational when it came to clothes and fashion, creating and making her own beautiful frocks in the 1950’s. Together my mother and I formed a partnership in 1976, designing and producing collections which we sold to independent retailers up and down the country. In 1983, in order to offer customers the full range and vision of my creations I opened my first tiny boutique in Wetherby, West Yorkshire.

In 1987 my husband, Robert, who has a BA in Fashion and Textiles from the prestigious St Martin’s School of Art in London and who also spent a number of years working both as a designer and as a buyer for various department stores, joined the company and we opened our first boutique in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. We also operated a very successful outlet in Bath for some twelve years. Our boutique in Holt, North Norfolk, which opened in 2007 will, from January 23, 2022, be renamed ‘Simoda’ and will pass into the capable hands of Simona Wright and will continue to stock the Suzy Hamilton label.
I continue to be inspired to produce beautiful, wearable clothes, designed and made in the UK and hope you will be thrilled and inspired to wear them!
